Music Success in 9 Weeks – Week 6

This weeks main focus was about getting our mailing lists going. Actually, it was more about learning how to get our mailing lists working for us, as musicians. So this week I worked on reminding all of my facebook friends to please go to my website and sign up for my mailing list. I have tons of email addresses, but getting them organized and keeping in constant contact is another thing. I’m getting my first newsletter together here and my goal is to post it by Friday 8/20/10. I’ll also post it on this blog as well.

This course is proving to be as difficult as I previously thought. It’s not so much that each individual task is hard to handle, however, with each week that passes by we add more tasks to a list of things that needs to be done. Some of them are to be achieved on a weekly basis. I don’t have a history of organization, so I’ll be enlisting the help of a newly recruited member of my ever so slowly growing team.

I have recruited a very intelligent woman to be my manager. She has no musical background, but her experience comes from sales and marketing. The first time I met her, I knew she’d make an excellent personal manager. She’s my boss’ wife and her name is Tracey Carrington. I gave her a book of mine, All You Need to Know About the Music Business, and she’s been digging into frequently. I liked the idea of not having a slick, all talk and no moxie manager. I want a go getter, someone who can still get excited about this stuff like I am. More on Tracey soon.

The Story So Far…
My song, Unbreak Your Heart, was the #1 song on soundclick.com last week. I went insane! Right now it’s #1 on the Smooth R&B Charts, #3 on the Urban Charts, and its been steady. I googled “maskerade unbreak your heart” and the mp3 has been downloaded and blogged all over the net! Scarecrow, a producer from the Netherlands, is on the production. Not bad, huh?

Here’s a clip of my latest performance. I performed a big time favorite of most of my friends, My Heart Wanna Dance. Nobody can say I’m not ready to grind this shit out man! My wife is not real happy with me right now, but I can’t let that stop me. I refuse!

These are the two joints that I’ll be pushing to radio, because that’s one of my goals. No ones coming to see you if they never heard of you before. I feel like I can use all this exciting news to maybe, just maybe, inch my way in the door.

UPDATES:
Twitter: Following 304 with 74 followers
Myspace: Still Sad
Facebook: Grew by about 10 new friends
Website: Still Sad
Youtube: Steadily growing.., 111,022 upload views, 52 friends, 198 subscribers

Lastly, I’ve been inspired by the enormous amount of great independent R&B music out there. So I’ve decided to start my own blogcast, called SOUL STAR RADIO I already have the domain and now I’m just waiting for godaddy.com to get their crap together. I’m going to try to post a mixpod.com player of the artists I found so far. You wouldn’t believe how great these songs are. My host name is going to be DJ R.B.O., which stands for “R&B Only”. I don’t hate rap. But I know there are just way too many rappers out there and R&B is not getting enough love on the radios. So I’m creating an avenue myself. Wish me luck!

I got a new name for the book. LIGHT A FIRE UNDER YOUR ASS AND KICK-START YOUR MUSIC CAREER IN 9 WEEKS.., by Ariel Hyatt.
